Police dog Finn now fully recovered after being stabbed by a teenager last year

A teenager who stabbed a police dog and his handler with a foot-long hunting knife in Stevenage has been jailed for four months.

The 16-year-old from London, who cannot be named for legal reasons, knifed German shepherd Finn in the chest and head as he tried to stop him from escaping.

The dog’s handler PC David Wardell also suffered a stab wound to his hand as he tried to protect him.

Hertfordshire Constabulary Chief Constable Charlie Hall said

I am glad we can all now start the process of putting the distressing events of last October, where PC Dave Wardell and now retired police dog Finn were stabbed, behind us.

I am extremely grateful to Dave and Finn as well as the other officers and staff who successfully brought the perpetrator to justice.
