More than a quarter of Parisians have had group sex making it France’s top place for romps with multiple people, according to a study.

Findings by polling institute Ifop highlight the French capital’s enthusiasm for sexual liberation compared to the rest of the country.

It found 44 per cent of men say they have had sex with a partner without knowing their name, compared with 14 per cent of women.

While 35 per cent of men and 10 per cent of women claimed to have enjoyed sexual encounters with three or more people simultaneously.

And 43 per cent of men said they have had sex with two partners at the same time, compared to 17 per cent of women – both nearly double the national rate.

The average Parisian claimed to have had 19 sexual partners compared to a national average of 11.

Ifop’s head of political and current affairs François Kraus described Paris as “a space where sexuality is less controlled and where transgressing taboos is much less sanctioned.”

The study, entitled Paris, City of Light, City of Debauchery, was based on a survey of 2,000 Parisians for an erotic website
