The Vice President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, has said that his party should remain vigilant to block potential abuses of power by President-elect Donald Trump’s administration and congressional Republicans.

The Vice President said this in his remarks at the fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, on Wednesday, Politico reports.

Biden reportedly said that “the worst sin of all is the abuse of power.”

He told members of his party that “the country needs you as much now as it has since … maybe … since I held public office.”

Adding that his party should “start communicating in plain, spoken communications to the regular people.”

“We are never going to give up on the poor or disadvantaged, or give up on our progressive values,” he said. “But people are scared [after Trump’s victory].”

Biden also reportedly said that he plans to help Democrats “from the sidelines” after he leaves office, joking that he’s doing “17” fundraisers for Democrats in the coming months.

“I’m leaving, but I’m not going to be quiet,” the Vice President added.

In his speech, he further said there’s an “enormous challenge and enormous opportunity ahead” for the Democratic Party to push back on the Trump administration, “as long as we don’t forget who we are.”

The Obama administration was frequently accused by Republicans of abusing its power, particularly through its use of executive orders. President Barack Obama once attempted to unilaterally shield immigrants in the United States illegally from deportation and to make them eligible for work permits without the approval of Congress.Nevertheless, the Supreme Court later blocked the action.
