No fewer than 48 shops and properties worth millions of Naira were on Tuesday burnt to ashes at the Gombe old Market by fire incident.

The Chairman of the market, Mallam Mohammad Abba, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview that the incident occurred in the night, and the the cause of the fire is yet to be identified. According to him, some of the affected shops had various goods worth millions of naira in them. He further called on the State Government to come to the aid of the victims.

Some of the victims suspected that the fire was caused by electrical fault. They appealed to Gombe State Government and public spirited individuals to assist them.

Nevertheless, they commended the men of Fire Service and the security agents for their immediate response.
