The city of Calabar, located in Cross River State, Nigeria, is known for various qualities and cultural heritage. Among these are their unique delicacies, dressing and of recent, the Calabar Carnival.

The Calabar Carnival is known as the largest street carnival in Africa which always pull crowd and participants across the globe.

In the 2016 Canival tagged “Climate Change” being the 12th year in the history of the Calabar Carnival, several dignitaries, bands and groups were in participation. Besides the promotion of talents and creativity, the carnival had united the people of Cross River, Nigerians, Africa and the globe at large as the bands portrayed the theme “Climate change”through choreography of trees, aquatic lives and wild lives.

About 18 countries including South Africa, and The Republic of Korea were in attendance.

The governor of Cross River state, Prof. Ben Ayade in an interview at the Calabar explained that he wishes to sustain the Carnival tradition and also introduce more innovations to spice up the Calabar Carnival.The Governor added that he aims at channeling the energy of the African youths to useful activities.
