Christmas is one of the most celebrated seasons in the year. A period where people show love to friends, families, neighbours and foes. It is always a hectic period of the year when it comes to shopping and spending. Several items such as hampers, Christmas trees, Christmas costumes and fireworks are quick selling items during this period. Also, during Christmas, many domestic animals are purchased for consumption. The Christmas season is a period where sellers make profits on every sold item without being queried by the customers.
Chicken is one of the most consumed goods during Christmas seasons. Thus, many people delve into poultry farm business during this period. As a result, a large number of chicken (broilers and old layers) are cultivated during this period. Nevertheless, this price of chicken during the yuletide still defy the economics of demand and supply.
A survey of the prices of chicken in few states of the country reveals that, chickens are sold for as high as four thousand naira (N 4,000.00) each in some states of Nigeria. My take, Christmas could be celebrated but there is life after the Christmas season considering the recession period.
